Thirty Happens by Elizabeth Butts

Release Date: 08.30.2016

Turning thirty is a big deal.

Getting married is also a big deal.

Karyn’s about to do both, and she’s freaking out about it. From the outside looking in, anyone would think she’s got it all going on. Amazing fiancé who adores her, job as the top reporter in town, amazing group of friends… seriously, the list goes on and on.

But, Karyn had dreams as a kid. She had these amazing, huge goals. She was so close to achieving them, too.

However, like life has a tendency to do, it took a detour.

And now she’s turning thirty, and getting married, and it turns out that she is nowhere near where she thought she would be at this point in her life.

So now, she is turning thirty, and getting married, and asking herself the question: ‘If I could go back and change direction… would I?’ Would she willingly change everything if only to have a chance at making her original dreams come true?

This was a good story. It's easy to read, most of it is funny but I've even shared some tears, relatable and thought provoking.

I can easily understand Karyn's pre-30 crisis. That's a point in everyone's life where we do an analysis of our experiences to see where we are heading and if we have achieved the goals we have set years before.
I liked Karyn since the beginning but I've also appreciated all the supporting characters and I hope to read more about them in the future.

I've really enjoyed Elizabeth Butts flowing writing and how she developped the plot.I was so caught up in the story that I've inhaled it.

“Nothing. I have nothing.”

Ashley pointedly looked around my room where I had a pile of clothes on the bed, clothes in the closet and in the dresser as well.

“Yeah, I can see you’re totally suffering. I should contact the local churches that you are in dire need and that a clothing drive needs to be coordinated as soon as possible.”

“Shut up.”

I reached for the first thing my fingers touched and threw it at her.

“Ewwwwww, ohmigawd. You just threw your thong undies at me? Seriously? What kind of sick and twisted bitch are you?”

She flung them off of her and then pretended to retch. At least I thought she was pretending.
I went and picked up my Victoria’s Secret knock offs and dangled them over her head.

“C’mon Ash, I thought you were my best friend. Don’t you want my panties on you?”
She shrieked like a little girl. The sound shocked me at first, and then hysteria set in.

“Seriously. You have issues.”

“Ain’t that the truth.”

We sat on the floor with our backs to the foot of our bed, surrounded by clothing.

“Tell me about this guy again.”

“Okay, well, he’s a teensy bit older than me. Not like crypt keeper old, but like, distinguished, sophisticated older. He has some silver in his hair and eye crinkles, but I don’t see liver spots and a walker in his near future.”

“Dude, you want to marry grandpa?”

“Ugh, no. Seriously, Ash. There’s just something about him.”

“What’s his name, again?”

“Chris. Chris Smyth.”
Her eyes bugged out at this.

“You’re dating Chris Smyth?” Her voice had gotten really low, almost a reverent whisper.
“Uh, well, I’m going on a date with him. We’ll see where it goes from there.”

I knew where I wanted it to go from there. I wouldn’t let that happen on the first date, though. I mean, only nasty chicks let that happen on the first date, right? I started chewing on my lower lip.

I could be nasty.

“So how do you know Chris?”

I was interested in knowing if she was going to be some form of competition.

She rolled her eyes at me.

“Karyn, everyone in town knows Chris. We all pretty much voted for him.”

“You what?”

“Do you know anything about him? Anything at all?”

“Well, I know he owns businesses, plural, and owns commercial properties that he leases to smaller businesses.”

“And he’s a town selectman.”

I just stared at her, unblinking.

“Like as in a politician. As a matter of fact, I’m pretty sure he’s one of the best we have, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he was the head of it all at some point. Everyone loves him.”

“Great. Just great. I find a guy who actually really interests me, like, one that I felt a freaking jolt over and he’s a freaking town celebrity. I mean, he’s not married, he’s sexy as hell. Why did he have to be a damn politician? I even text broke up with Ryan over this.”

Up All Night by Michele Callahan

Release Date: 03.30.2016

Once upon a time Mitchell Walker fell in love...and trusted the wrong woman. That one mistake nearly cost him his future. His older brother, Derek, stepped in to take the fall. Mitchell has never forgiven himself for that day, and vowed to never trust another woman.

Now he is a young, successful surgeon. Women throw themselves at his feet, and he gives them what they want, as long as they don't ask for his heart. The strategy is working well for him until he meets freelance reporter Jessica Finley.

She's smart, she makes him laugh, and she sees right through his playboy persona. When Mitchell finds out she has links to the past he's tried so hard to forget, his life implodes, and Jessica is at the center of the detonation.

Jessica's fire may burn hot enough to keep him up all night, but will her love be strong enough to burn away the ghosts of his past and melt the ice around his heart?

This is the third book I've read written by Michele Callahan and her flawless writing is not a surprise anymore.

I'm addicted to the Walker brothers and the talented women they meet in this series.

Mitchell is a great doctor but when he is not at work he lives a pretty gray and lonely life until he met Jess, one of his patient's sister, who will bring a little of color and some mess into his life.
Even if they are really different from each other their physical chemistry is unbelievable.

I will patiently wait for Derek's story.

Sometimes a first love creeps back in…

As the three women face new complexities in the sequel to Then Comes Love, they learn the fairy tale can fade, leaving you to question everything you thought you knew. However, family and friendship can sometimes be the link you need to find what you want.

I loved it.
I was so glad to go back and to catch another glimpse in the fascinating lives of Amelia,Annie,Charlotte and their significant others.

This book shows us how life for new lovers is not always all fine and dandy but to make a stronger long-lasting love you have to overcome some difficulties trusting into each other.

Lindsay Detwiler has succeeded once again to deliver a very good story with her flawless writing style that makes you laugh and think at every turn of page.

“Don’t be ridiculous, Leonard. Of course I’m getting the door. What? You think a robber’s going to waste his time at the old people’s home?”

“Of course not, Charlotte. Get back in bed. Who would possibly be at the door at this hour other than a robber?” Leonard hissed at her, trying to yank her arm. He didn’t have his glasses on, so he didn’t even make contact with her.

Charlotte shook her head at the silly man.

“I’ll take my chances,” she whispered as he groaned and got out of bed.

“If we end up tied up it’s because of you,” he grumbled, rubbing sleep from his eyes. The pounding continued as Charlotte grabbed her glasses from the nightstand on her way from the room.

“Coming,” she yelled.

“Great, now the robber knows we’re here.” Leonard sighed, following closely behind.

“You’ve been watching too much Dateline.” As she crossed the kitchen and put her hand on the doorknob, she begrudgingly paused. She couldn’t admit Leonard was right. Peering at the clock on the stove, she realized it was 11:06 p.m. Probably not the smartest time to open your door. But she was committed now and couldn’t admit she had the creeps, not with Leonard right there ready to say told you so. So Charlotte flung the door to the right, and waited to face her attacker.

The sight in front of her eyes in the darkened hallway was both glorious and terrifying.

Amelia stood in sweatpants and a hoodie, tears streaming down her face. Her hair was a frizzy mess and her eyes were bloodshot.

“Grandma, I’m so sorry. My flight just got in and I was going to wait to see you until tomorrow but I just needed to talk. Oh my gosh, you were sleeping. I’m an idiot.”

Charlotte was horrified by the potential reason behind Amelia’s sudden visit. She was supposed to be in Amsterdam right now. She wasn’t due home until Thanksgiving.

King of Wall Street by Louise Bay

Release Date: 08.24.2006

I keep my two worlds separate.

At work, I’m King of Wall Street. The heaviest hitters in Manhattan come to me to make money. They do whatever I say because I’m always right. I’m shrewd. Exacting. Some say ruthless.

At home, I’m a single dad trying to keep his fourteen year old daughter a kid for as long as possible. If my daughter does what I say, somewhere there’s a snowball surviving in hell. And nothing I say is ever right.

When Harper Jayne starts as a junior researcher at my firm, the barriers between my worlds begin to dissolve. She’s the most infuriating woman I’ve ever worked with.

I don’t like the way she bends over the photocopier—it makes my mouth water.

I hate the way she’s so eager to do a good job—it makes my dick twitch.

And I can’t stand the way she wears her hair up exposing her long neck. It makes me want to strip her naked, bend her over my desk and trail my tongue all over her body.

If my two worlds are going to collide, Harper Jayne will have to learn that I don't just rule the boardroom. I’m in charge of the bedroom, too.

As you all know at this point I'm a fan of this author.

King Of Wall Street could seem the nth book with a billionaire as a hero and his beautiful employee as a heroine but this is so much can bet it because Louise Bay's writing is never plain or banal.
Be prepared to read some serious hot scenes that will melt your inside and some incredibly sweet scenes that will definitely melt your heart.

The characters are well written,it's so easy to fall in love with all of them and to hope to read more about each one of them.

The Sex Education of M.E. by L.B. Dunbar

Release Date: 08.22.2016

I’m forty, flabby, and frustrated. Don’t get me wrong, I have a good home, a decent job, and great children. I had a loving marriage for twenty years where we had our ups and downs. It wasn’t perfect; but it wasn’t awful.
Then he died.

After the grief took its course, and the reality of my life set in, I grew frustrated. It wasn’t the bills or the strug-gle to keep my interest in my work. It was life without a man – the only man I’d been with for twenty years. And before you go all feminist on me, it isn’t that I can’t be an independent woman, but there are certain areas where a man is necessary.

You need a fuck buddy, my friend said.
I didn’t even know what that meant.
Is it friends with benefits?, I asked.
Better, you don’t even have to be friends, she offered.

Boy, did I need an education in the modern workings of dating, and sex.

I want to start this review telling you that this story is not only for an over 40 women audience but as a 30 years old single woman I've really enjoyed it.
I read a lot of romance and even I appreciate Young Adult and New Adult I'm really glad when I find an Adult book with more mature characters.

This was my first novel written by L.B. Dunbar and her writing is so good, it makes this story even more realistic and the reader cannot not to feel really involved into these characters' lives and to root for their happiness.

Emme and Merek journey is hot, funny and heartfelt at times. It's not easy to break old habits and to take a chance on a new, unplanned and unexpected future especially when you feel like your life is pretty much ended under the pressure of your past and obligations.

Been Searching for You by Nicole Evelina

Release Date: 05.10.2016

Annabeth is a hopeless romantic who believes in soul mates. In fact, she’s been writing to hers each year on her birthday since she was 16.

Now, at 34, she’s still holding out hope of finding Mr. Right even though he’d be fighting an uphill battle to gain her trust, thanks to a traumatic experience years before that’s left her unable to commit.

Things don’t quite go as planned, so Annabeth resolves to do everything she can over the next year to find the unknown recipient of her letters. Fighting her attraction to one and loathing for the other, Annabeth is forced to face all of her old insecurities while keeping an eye on a scheming frienemy who may derail her hopes and dreams.

This was a perfect summer read.

Thanks to the flowing and descriptive writing it seems like a movie formed in my mind while I was reading Annabeth's journey.

Been Searching For You is full of realistic struggles for an over thirty hopeless romantic who is still looking for her soulmate, determined to not settle for nothing less...unfortunately I could totally relate.
Thankfully this book contains also a well literate "Charming Prince",a nice group of supporting characters and some wonderful dates that will make every reader really jealous.

I have thoroughly enjoyed this story.
Even if it was the first novel I've read by Nicole Evelina it won't be the last.

"Love isn't about what we do or don't deserve. If it were,we'd all be alone. It's about forgiveness and second-and third and one hundredth-chances and being there for one another in good times and bad.As my note said,I've come to realize there's no time in life for regrets. All we have is today."

When the doorbell rang the following afternoon, I was still in my pajamas. It was Miles and Mia. Again.
“What do you two want?” I said with more than a little annoyance. I loved them, but at some point, one would think they’d learn weekends were sacred alone time for an introvert like me. “I’m all out of chocolate chip pancakes.”
Mia was huddled behind Miles as if she was using his body as a shield. It was very strange. “No, silly, we’re not here for food.”
“That’s a first.”
“We’re here,” Miles picked up the thread of conversation, “on strict orders from MI6.”
I squinted at them. “Did you two do drugs last night?”
“I’m totally serious,” Miles said. “If you will kindly let us in, we’ll explain.”
With a roll of my eyes, I stepped aside. They plunked down on the couch, a large box between them.
I pointed at it. “It’s not ticking, is it?”
Mia smiled. “Nope.”
“As I said”—Miles adopted a serious tone as if he were on one of those TV shows about the CIA—“we were given a clear mission, and it was to deliver this to you.”
I perched on the arm of the couch. “And did this message self-destruct after you received it?”
“Nope. Mia destroyed the evidence by eating it. Girl will eat anything.” Miles snickered, and Mia punched him in the arm.
“So what’s in the box, and who sent it?”
“That’s classified—need to know only, and we didn’t need to know.”
“You guys are really starting to weird me out,” I said in partial honesty.
“Just open it.” Mia pulled me onto her lap and forced my hands around the edges of the paper-wrapped box.
After inspecting it for any signs of who gave them this mysterious “mission,” I tore open the paper. Inside was an expensive white-and-red striped decorative box, the kind in which an uptown woman might store correspondence or invitations to snooty parties. Lifting the lid carefully, I found a single sheet of cream stationery on top covered in Alex’s elegant, Catholic schoolboy handwriting.

Annabeth, since there is much I cannot be with you for in body over the coming months, I wanted to make sure I was there in spirit when you needed me. I made this while I was waiting to hear the final outcome, knowing we’d have use for it eventually even if I didn’t get in at Oxford. Please consider each one of these envelopes a work of love.

The letter ended with his signature and a quote from a Florence and the Machine song about finding a way around an ocean for the sake of love.
Speechless, I handed the letter to Miles. Mia craned her neck around me to see it.
Underneath, standing in neat rows, were at least two dozen multicolored envelopes. Selecting one at random, I pulled out a bright green envelope that reminded me of those glow sticks they used to sell at skating rinks in the eighties. I even had the urge to shake it to see if it would light up. In the upper left corner, where a return address would normally have been, were the words, “Open me when…” In lieu of an address, he had written, “you need a laugh.” Below the words was a giant smiley face sticker. Thumbing through the others, I noticed they all bore the same return address but were meant for different occasions—everything from my moods to situations that might arise at work or in other areas of my life.
Typical Mia, she made a beeline for the only red envelope, which said, “Open me when… you’re Fifty Shades of Horny.” She waved it in my face. “I want to know what’s in this one.”
I made to grab it away, but she squirmed out from under me, scampering around the couch and holding it out of my reach like a schoolyard bully. She shook it. “Too small for even a silver bullet.” Her face lit up with inspiration. “Someone’s getting lucky online,” she sang.
“Damn it, Mia. Give it back.”
Miles calmly got up—unnoticed by Mia because she was too busy capering around—plucked it out of her hand, and tossed it to me. “My darling, we’ve completed our mission. We should probably leave Annabeth alone.”
She gave Miles an incredulous look. “Why, so she can fondle her envelopes? Nope. This calls for a day on the town.”

Viper's story got a sequel and I'm so glad because I needed to read more about him.
This novel was really beautiful and at times so honest you feel your heart breaking sentence after sentence.

I cannot not to say thank you to Beth Ehemann because she gave these characters the journey they deserve.

Something So Right by Natasha Madison

Release Date: 08.01.2016

The moment everything changed didn’t happen in that cliché rockets-red-glare kind of way, it happened in the form of a waking nightmare. I caught my husband, my high-school sweetheart, the father of my children, balls deep in a sordid affair.

That was when I gave up on men and love.

I didn’t count on the NHL’s golden boy, the beautiful, arrogant Cooper Stone turning my life and my hockey rink upside down.

My kids are why I wake up in the morning.

Hockey is what Cooper breathes for.

We’re from different worlds and places in our lives but when our hearts collided something so wrong and different turned into something so right.

I'm reading a lot of debut novels lately and I'm really enjoying all of them, this was no exception.
Natasha Madison writing reminded me of one of my favorite hockey romance author, not for the story contents but more for the similar feelings she gave me while reading it.

I liked how Parker and Cooper’s relationship developed, sweetly and mainly smoothly, without any major drama but with some realistic tiny bump here and there on the way and a lot of scorching hot sexy times.
I've particularly loved how the main characters' journey is tied up with that of the kids and the other supporting characters.

I really can't wait to read more stories written by this author and I also suggested her to write a certain story because I NEED Matthew's college story in my life.

We pull up to the house way after everyone’s bedtime. Allison was asleep even before we pulled out of Meghan’s driveway. It’s been a long time I’ve felt this content.
I look over at Cooper, who looks far away in his thoughts.
He’s been like that all evening.
Once we get home, he quickly takes Allison out of her seat. Luckily she changed into her pyjamas before we left Meghan’s.
“I got her, babe, get the bags.”
Matthew is continuing his ‘celebrating’ by staying over at his friend’s house. Usually I would say no, but like Cooper said, it’s like he just won the cup.
By the time I get inside and sort through all the wet things, I sense him before I feel him wrap his hands around my waist.
“Babe, come outside with me.” Something in his voice makes my heart pound. My hands are getting clammy just walking outside with him.
We get to the hammock, and he sits down on it, making it like a swing. His feet are on the ground in front, and the back of the hammock against his back halfway. “Sit on me,” he demands.
“I can’t. I’m going to throw you over.” I stand there in front of him. He rubs his hands up and down the back of my legs, kissing my stomach. I’m still wearing my sundress from this afternoon.
“I won’t make you fall, I promise.”
I comb my fingers through his hair, looking down into his blue eyes. They’re like the key to his soul, always bright. Tonight they look clouded, like a storm is brewing.
“Okay,” I whisper and straddle his lap. I’m surprised we don’t topple over, but Cooper has his feet planted on the floor, so we aren’t going anywhere.
“Baby.” I look at him. “You’re scaring me.” I’m sure he can hear my heart beating in my chest.
“I’ve never felt like this.” He whispers, “I’ve had women, many women, but none were like you.” He kisses my chest right above my breast.
“Okay.” I twirl his hair through my fingers.
“When I looked over at you today and saw you sitting with James, my breath caught in my throat.”
“Honey.” I pull his hair so he looks up at me. “James and I, we are the past. Way, way in the past.”
“You made a life with him, you made a home with him, you have kids with him.” His voice trembles.
“I had all that, I made a home with him. I had kids with him. He threw that away. He tossed it aside.” I’m trying to calm my nerves. I’m scared that this is it. This will be the last time that I hold him. “Cooper.” He looks up at me, and I snap, my heart snaps. “No, you don’t get to decide this, you don’t get to toss me aside because you think you know what I want or need.” My heart is literally hurting. It’s aching. I blink away the tears that are forming in my eyes, continuing what I have to say. “If you don’t want me, just say it, but don’t you dare try to cop out of this giving yourself a clear conscience.” I drop my hands to my sides, looking into his eyes. I lean forward, kissing his eyes. “I’ve had many years with a man who not only looked through me, he passed by me, not stopping to look at me. But you, you see me.”—I kiss his cheeks—“I’ve had many years not smiling. Now I smile so much my cheeks hurt. I smile for no reason at all. I smile at you and because of you”—I kiss his lips—“I’ve had many years of little kisses, but none of them made my heart flutter like yours, none of them left me breathless because of them, none of them I longed for.” I can’t stop the one tear that has rolled down my face. “I want you, I want this”—I point from him to me with my hand—“I want this more than I care to admit”—I put my forehead on his, our eyes watching each other—“I want you to want me,” I whisper the last part, my heart hoping that he does pick me, that he picks us.
“I want you,” he says softly. “I want all of you. I want your mornings. I want your afternoons. I want your nights. I want your tomorrows, baby. I want it all. I was so scared you would want what you had, and not want what we have.”
I don’t say anything anymore. I just lean in, kissing his bottom lip, hoping he opens up for me, and he does. He opens so our tongues touch each other, and I know I’m home.
I want to get under his skin and it still wouldn’t be close enough. I fumble with his shirt, trying to rip it off his body. When my hands touch his chest, I make little traces of imaginary infinity signs all down his chest, hoping he feels it. He pulls down the tube part of my dress, bringing my bikini top with it. My nipples peak with the cold air on them. Cooper’s thumbs circle around my nipples, then he places his finger in the middle of my chest, making an infinity sign, all while looking into my eyes.
My need for him is all-consuming. He squeezes my breast, rubbing down to my ass. When both his hands cup my ass, he just palms it, pushing me more to him.
“Honey.” I’m stopped by his tongue invading my mouth. I’m invaded by his scent. His hand makes its way under my dress, moving my bikini bottoms to the side.
He enters me easily with two fingers, making me gasp. “Always ready for me, always.” With my head tossed back, he kisses down my neck with his tongue all the way to my nipple.
He takes it into his mouth, sucking deeply, sending shock waves all down to my core. “Honey, please.” I look down at him. “Be with me.”
He withdraws his fingers from me, then opens his shorts, freeing himself.
“Be with me, baby.” I lift myself till I’m positioned over him where I slowly slide all the way down, one inch at a time. I feel him stretching me open while he invades me.
I look into his eyes, hoping he sees what I feel. I move up and down again, all the while looking at him. He’s beautiful. He’s everything I’ve ever dreamed of, and he’s mine.
He picks me up by my hips, bringing me to the top of his dick before bringing me down again.
He lifts his feet off the ground, making us swing back and forth, putting him deeper into me. It’s like we are on a swing, so I push back, making him go back, him pushing forward, both of us wanting to go deeper and deeper. I’m close, so close. I know he is too because I feel fuller.
“Honey, I want you with me.”
“Babe, I’m there.” He grabs both my shoulders, thrusting down on him where I come apart. I squeeze him, taking him with me. He is groaning out his release, all the while we look into each other’s eyes. His blue eyes are clearer than before, more at peace, more calm. He kisses me deeply while still in me, the aftershocks of my orgasm still squeezing him.
“Stay with me tonight?” I ask him.
“What about Allison?” he says, knowing that I never want to cross that line.
“It’s okay. We can set an alarm, wake up together. Say yes, please.”
“As long as I’m with you, it’s yes, it’s always yes.”
