Lilith by Willow Aster

Release Date: 12.26.2017

Synopsis:

Beautiful, intelligent, independent, strong-willed, wealthy—Lilith Fontenot seems by all appearances, to have it all. But that’s not how the highest paid prostitute in New Orleans sees herself.

A stain on society. A scourge. A waste. Outsider. Prisoner…

Any idyllic dream of the normal life she may have once imagined, Lilith buried long ago. Her only plan now is survival.

But mob boss Nico Santelli and community center owner Soti Christos have not given up on Lilith. Each has his own very specific, very opposing, plans for her, and neither will rest until it becomes a reality.

LILITH is a singularly bracing take on an ancient tale of tireless love, betrayal, and the possibility of redemption.

Review:

I liked this story really much.
Lilith is thrilling and engaging,I held my breath for the last 30 % and I just couldn't go to sleep before to finish it.

Lili is a good heroine, she always finds the strenght to go on even if her future appears dark and hopeless.Soti is a kind and beautiful man inside outand you cannot not to fall in love with him at first sight.

"All of us are just fragments trying to grasp onto the next broken piece, trying to be a little more complete."

Willow Aster is one of my favorite author and I find her attempt to a more suspenseful storytelling really convincing and captivating.

Excerpt:

I take a sudden deep breath and my breasts brush against his chest. The contact surprises us both. I do it again, intentionally this time, trying to gain control in the only way I know how. His neck flushes and he takes a step back. I enjoy the rush it gives me, knowing that I affect him too.

“Hey, would you like to come around the corner with me to—”

I swallow my surprise and shake my head, holding my hand up before he says anything else.

“Please,” he says louder.

“What’s your name?”

“I am Sotirios … Soti.”

“Soti, what makes you think you know anything about me?”

He tries to make eye contact, but I focus on a spot just past his left ear.

“I just want to help you…” His words trail off.

The wind blows my hair forward, a sheet of black coming between us until I smooth the long strands down on either side. I gaze down the street and see a blurry little girl with black hair down to her waist in middle school, standing shy and hopeful in front of a group of girls.
“We know what you are,” they said. They hurled spit and names on her and she stood there, taking it, until the teacher came and helped her.
Help only got me so far.

“You listen to me, okay?” I say so softly he leans in to hear me. “I was born for this.”

When my eyes finally land on his again, I know his face will haunt me forever. He looks as bleak as I feel.

I clear my throat. “Now, if you’ll excuse us.”

With that, I loop my hand through the arm of my next income source, calculating how I can get the most money out of him for the least amount of time. It takes every ounce of willpower I own to not look Soti’s way one more time. Once we round the corner and I know he’s out of sight, all the adrenaline leaves my body, and I’m actually glad to have someone to hold onto.

I avoid my reflection as we walk back to the house. I don’t want to know what the rest of the world sees when they look at me.

Best before twenty-five?

With newsfeeds full of perfect pouts, hot-dog legs, and the self-proclaimed hashtag-blessed, it’s hard not to feel inadequate. How has everyone figured out how to live their best life, except you?'

That’s what Kylie wants to know. She thought she would spend her twenty-fifth birthday having a mini-break – not a mini-breakdown! After an evening of finger-food and snide remarks, Kylie decides that things must change.

Naturally, Alexa disagrees. She doesn’t think anything needs to change at all, and is quite happy plodding along with her best friend by her side.

So, when everything changes for the better for Alexa – while it’s going from bad to worse for Kylie – will it tear them apart?

Review:

The Wrong Side of Twenty-Five was a nice read that kept my interest throughout the book.

Kylie and Alexa are two good characters, their struggling and uncertainties of the future are so relatable.I'm sure I've met them during my life and I'm even more sure I was like them at some point in my life.

I really liked Kate Armitage writing style.I've enjoyed her words that in their simplicity deliver a strong message of self-worth and uniqueness.
There isn't a precise age to fulfill our dreams but we don't have to lose confidence in ourselves and to change in order to fit in.

Dear Diary,

When I eventually return to read my entries in my old age, I'll always remember just how miserable I was in December of 2017. I should have had a diary when I was a teen; then it would have been funny to re-read what I went through back then. When I was in high school, I didn't have many friends. In fact, my mother introduced me to a girl on the day of orientation.
Here's the story:
Mom parked her car, and we got out. She began looking for all the gathered students outside of the gymnasium. I knew no one at the high school and Mom knew that too. It was mainly because I finished middle school in a different district and at that moment, I was not happy about the move. I gazed at the students and my Mom. She had that glint in her eyes that said a plan was forming and I could do nothing to stop it. After a minute, she motioned me to follow her and I did, just like the good girl that I was. We walked up to two girls. One had long brown hair and was wearing a loose shirt and long skirt, while the other had short blonde hair, glasses and wore a tiger t-shirt with jeans. Mom told them how it would be nice for them to take little old me into their friendship. They said ‘sure,' and she just left me there.
You see Diary? Now those are memories. Memories of dating an engaged guy at 28, is not as good as that one, huh?
If you're wondering, I couldn't really make friends with the long skirt. She and I were too different. She was very opinionated, and I couldn't hold a conversation without being confused. The glasses girl and I stayed friends until the first year of college. We grew apart after she moved away. I did hear from her once. She congratulated me on my degree. It was random. She sounded happy, and she met her life partner. I was happy for her, but that conversation didn't rekindle the friendship that lasted for five years.
Now, I am off to work. Yes, I'm working today, although it's a Sunday. There are branches open on Sundays; I am talking about the ones inside the grocery stores. My friend, Jessica, who's a manager at one, called me to cover for her today because she has a cold. I couldn't say no, so I need to go. Oh, and she told me to buy her crew breakfast! At least, we're only open until 2 pm today.

Cat

PS: Buy those groceries TONIGHT, or you'll be eating Chinese noodles, and not the take-out ones.

The British Knight by Louise Bay

Release Date: 12.03.2017

Synopsis:

When I’m offered the chance to leave New York to live in London for three months, I can’t pack my suitcase fast enough.

As soon as I touch down I’m obsessing over red telephone boxes, palaces and all the black cabs.

But my favorite place is the tube. It’s wall-to-wall hot British men in suits.

When I’m offered a temporary job working for a barrister, I say, sign me up.

On my first commute into work, it’s a total accident when I lose my balance and fall against the most handsome Brit alive. He’s as charming as James Bond and as suave as Mr. Darcy. I want to lick tea from his hard abs and listen to his accent all night long.

Turns out Mr. Handsome is my new boss. And his attitude isn’t as hot as his gorgeous face, broad shoulders and tight ass. He’s brooding, short-tempered and the most arrogant man I’ve ever met.

As we’re fighting, out of nowhere he kisses me. And I’m pretty sure I see fireworks over Big Ben and hear God Save the Queen.

I wasn’t looking for the fairytale but I might have found my knight in shining armor. The problem is he lives an ocean away.

Review:

I loved this one...it was perfect for me,from the captivating cover to the description of some enchanting places I didn't know they were in London.

Violet and Alexander are so different from each other, the first is a feisty american woman who lives in the moment, the other is a stiff british barrister who has the goal to be the best at what he does.Their journey was so enterteining.I liked to see their best features rub off on each other making them and their relationship grow page after page.

I always enjoy this author work...Louise Bay please keep them coming!!I'd like to read Darcy's happily ever after too.

Excerpt:

Alexander:

My workout this morning had been punishing. The harder I worked, the harder I worked out. I was a big believer in that if I wasn’t physically fit, I couldn’t perform as well in my job. And I was willing to do whatever I had to do to be the best barrister I could be. As a result, I’d been up since five, worked out until six thirty, and then had a conference call with Dubai at seven. I hated days when I was late into the office, but this morning couldn’t be helped. My commute had been . . . unusual. The woman I’d knocked into while getting off the tube had been beautiful, and I couldn’t keep the image of her gazing up at me in the middle of Lincoln’s Inn Fields out of my brain. I needed to focus. And perhaps get laid when I got the time. But it wouldn’t be tonight. I’d be working. I had hundreds of witness statements to go through and my opening statement to draft.

In three days, I’d be in court, and that was my sole focus. There was no time to be wasted on fantasizing about women.

As I trawled through my emails, trying to pick out the important ones from the hundreds littering my inbox, someone knocked at my door. I resisted the temptation to growl. I hated being interrupted—I needed a sign for the door.

“Come in,” I barked.

The door swung open, and I could tell by the footsteps that the head clerk had swooped in. “Mr. Knightley.”

“Craig.” I didn’t take my focus off my laptop screen. Craig was an avuncular and charming man in his mid-fifties. He’d been in the business since he was fifteen and had clerked my father. If anyone could interrupt me, he could. And he knew it. Over the years, I’d tried to get him to call me Alex, but he insisted all the clerks and admin staff call the barristers by their surnames. The bar could be a very old-fashioned place.

“I want to introduce you to your new assistant, Violet King.”

I paused, my fingers hovering over my keyboard. I knew nothing of this and would never have agreed to it—I worked alone. Slowly, I turned to find Craig in front of my desk, his eyebrows raised in expectation.

“My what?” I asked. A figure moved in beside him and I slid my gaze to the right. I found myself staring straight at the beautiful woman who’d invaded my thoughts since I’d arrived in chambers. What was going on? I looked away from her, sure that Craig would see my attraction to her if my eyes lingered over her for more than a split second.

Review:

This was a nice and quick christmassy read.

Lila Monroe delivered a perfect novella, the characters are feisty and the air between them burns quickly leaving them hot even in the middle of a snowstorm.
I was enjoying Jill and Oliver story so much I would have liked it to be a long novel.
I expect to see them again in the next series along with Oliver's siter.
