In the middle of the night she leaves with her horses to hide out at an old friend of her coach in a valley near Rustler’s Ridge, a small West Virginia town. All she must do is stay under the radar and make it through two months. But across the valley there’s a cowboy who is desperately trying to keep his farm afloat. She can’t help it, whenever they meet there are sparks.

Jack Coleman has only one to keep his family ranch out of the hands of an unscrupulous debtor. This was his sole focus until he finds a beautiful, mysterious blonde and her horses stuck on a flood-washed backroad. He has no idea who she is hiding from, or why. But he knows that she has lit a fire in him that had been dead for years. Now, if only he could forget about her and carry on with the business of saving his farm. But fate keeps throwing them together.
There is no way they can be together—but how do you stop falling in love?

Review:

I got sucked into Roping Her Heart right away and I finished it too quickly.

Madison James has just came out of a horse competition as a winner when she finds out her fiancé has planned to sell the great horse she rides, so she decides to run away and to hide on a ranch in Virginia with her horses. Jack Coleman is a young cowboy who's struggling to keep his ranch. He doesn't have any time for friends and lovers, but maybe a beautiful stranger will change his mind.

I've enjoyed Madison and Jack's story.
I adored to see Madison growth, she learns bit by bit to take care of her horses by herself and to take some advices. Jack is such a good man, he prefers to be harassed some in order to save his family's legacy, and I was so happy to see how much loved he is from his rural community.
They are instantly attracted to each other, but their edgy personalities make their first encounters frustrating and annoying, and only living in close proximity and knowing each other better they become more tolerable and likable. But still their lives and dreams are so different they can't think of a long term relationship.

This is CJ Hackland debut novel, I liked the writing and the storyline. The slow burn is well done, it follows perfectly the characters' journey and it never gets boring.

I recommend to read this book if you like horses and small town stories. I hope the author writes soon some more books set in Rustler’s Ridge.
