A Gentleman's Promise by Penny Hampson
Richard Lacey has just found out to be the last heir of the late Viscount Easterby, inheriting the title, the mansion and even the family’s bad luck. After two accidents that almost killed him he is convinced that there is someone who is threatining the family’s heir life, because also the deaths of the Viscount’s sons wete mysterious, and he starts to investigate. Emma Smythe has travelled back to England disguised as a boy with her young brother only to find out that her grandfather has died and his house is now inhabited by a far cousin. At first she doesn’t trust Richard, but soon she sees his good faith and his desire to help her family. Will they solve the mystery before it’s too late? Or the Smythe heirs are destined to disappear?
I liked Richard and Emma so much, they are different from each other, mild and meticulous the first and obstinate and feisty the latter, but at the same time perfect. Even if there aren’t too many displays of affection between them it isn’t difficult to see their feelings growing chapter after chapter.
I also liked the supporting characters and I hope to see more of them in the next books in the series.
I’ve enjoyed this story because the storyline is well thought, well written and gripping.
The characters’ journey kept me in suspense and I really wished they could be alive and happy in the end.
Thank you for reading and reviewing my book, Fede. I'm delighted that you enjoyed it!
