An Imperfect Scoundrel by Alyssa Drake

Synopsis:

Falling in love with a pirate wasn't part of her plan, especially one as ruthless as Captain Shaw.

Fleeing a deranged killer intent on murdering her family, Alana sets sail for America. Two weeks into the voyage, her ship is attacked by marauders. Abducted, and assigned to the captain’s quarters as a manservant, she carries out her duties under the guise of her late husband, Sebastian Dubois, her treachery placing her in unforeseen peril.

The final voyage of Captain Shaw was meant to do one thing, earn him enough money to retire before the Navy puts a noose around his neck. Forming an attachment to the fiery redhead pretending to be a man was not. Upon discovering her deception, he conceals her identity from his men, the decision leading to catastrophic consequences.

When Alana is falsely accused of theft, the crew demands satisfaction, and he’s left with no option but to carry out the sentence of death. For what pirate would risk his life for a woman?

Review:

An Imperfect Scoundrel is the fourth book in the Wiltshire Chronicles series. It could be read as a standalone, but I recommend reading the series in order because there is a common thread that links every story.

I have enjoyed all of the books in this series and this one lived up to my expectations. Alyssa Drake writing is gripping and compelling, her storylines are always adventurous and suspenseful. In this book we also have some crude and disturbing scenes, but we are on a pirate ship, and this behaviour was almost foreseeable by those brutes.

Alana Dubois is travelling to America when her ship is attacked by the pirates of the fearful Captain Shaw. To have her life safe she becomes the Captain's cabin boy, so it begins her troubled journey to salvation and freedom.

I loved the main characters. Captain Shaw and Alana have two good personalities, my favourite trait is his quick, smart brain, and her resilience. They share a great chemistry and their sexy intercourses are very spicy.
I was invested into their relationship growth, I wished everything ended well for them, even during the hopeless moments.

If you like scoundrels with a heart of gold as much as me this is the book you have to read.
